Installing New Plants

Planting is rewarding and straightforward. Begin by locating underground utilities—dial 811 if unsure. Clear debris, dig holes appropriate to the plant size, and carefully place your plants to avoid breakage. Ensure proper root management and add compost and fertilizers for nutrient support. Regular watering is key to success, and remember that different plants have unique water needs.

Proper installation is crucial for plant success. We offer detailed advice on choosing the right location, preparing the soil, and ensuring your plants get off to a great start through careful planting and post-installation techniques.

Planting Instructions

If your plant is in a pot, gently squeeze the pot to loosen the root ball. Tilt it and slide the plant out, supporting the base and root ball. For larger plants, cut away the pot. Loosen the roots at the bottom without damaging the root ball.

For balled and burlapped plants, place the root ball in the hole, remove the wire, and fold back or cut the burlap. Ensure no burlap is exposed to prevent drying.

Mix compost and Biotone in the backfill as you plant. Add fertilizer if desired. Once filled, tamp down the soil and create a berm around the plant's drip-line to retain water. Apply 2-4 inches of mulch, leaving a mulch-free ring around the base to prevent pests and disease.
